  1. As i've said before, I absolutely love your design. I'd feel incredibly cosy and comfortable while using it. As for the choice of material - you're absolutely correct in making it translucent (perhaps not clear, though) - it does increase the safety of the piece. Balance and mounting isn't clearly shown in the renderings, but based on our conversations about it I know that you've resolved those issues.

  2. Pete this is amazing. Solving the issue of rubbish collection by making it completely transparent is perfect! It's also great because now its still a noise barrier by not a visual one. This is great because you can see someone is sitting there without walking around and awkwardly checking. I can't think of anything you could do to make this better... Maybe since its already there, the top of the ear could extend and create a shelter? No wait you've already done that. Well done. Awesome.

  4. Love it Peter, a simply effective and very considerate product! I personally have an instant attraction to the design. Apart from noise considerations, I believe that the structure provides a real sense of protection through its shell like form, making it an object that you instantly want to use. Great consideration of vandals as well. Great work!

    1. With the cantilevered design however, I would consider how dirt and other rubbish may build up in the crevasse behind the seat and may be difficult to clean.

  5. I have certainly enjoyed the majority of your projects this semester, but this is definitely one of the better ones. I really like the use of a transparent plastic in the design, it's definitely cool being able to see through the furniture. However, I wish you could have communicated this a little better in the scale model. Something that I'm sure you would have been able to do with more time. Overall the design is affective and simple, you should be happy.

  6. I'm glad you decided to stick with your original shape and did not alter the aesthetic for the function while still managing to solve not only the rubbish issue, but the issue of vandalism as well. Your solution is definitely an inviting piece of street furniture to sit on and I can see it put into use in a variety of areas. Well done and congrats on the nomination!

  7. This is really cool, never seen anything like it. It looks cosy and comfortable and the clear plastic as the material choice is pretty inspired. I would be worried about vandals scratching or etching into it though, and I'm also aware that not many plastics would be transparent at that thickness, if any? What about hardened shatter-proof glass?

Great renderings too man. Only thing I'd change about your posters would be to put the symbol of the ear after the title - I keep reading 'Gear' and it's pretty annoying.

    1. Something to consider is how the piece would be placed into the ground and whether it would need an extra piece to keep it balanced.

  10. Pete,

A great result. I enjoyed seeing this idea develop and you produced really effective renderings to illustrate your concept. I think that effective concept designs are the ones that generate conversation. This one definitely does that and I think this is the case because it is such a playful concept with a flamboyant cantilevered arched roof. It feels cavernous and cosy without the risk of becoming dingy due to your material selection. I overheard during the presentation, a comment about transparency versus translucency. Josh also touched on this notion in his comment. I think it could be a neat compromise between privacy and visibility in suggesting a translucent material. Keep up the momentum in Semester 2 mate! Great working with ya this semester!

  11. Really think this design is a great outcome to your commitment to the course. You renderings really epitomise the final product let alone the quality of a mock up model you presented on the day. keep up the good work mate!

    Cheers

  13. This is such a clever idea. The conceptual idea of an ear where people can hear each other talk in noisy places and then the physical form symbolising an ear is really nice. I think the decision to have a clear structure is a good one. This makes the structure less obtrusive, but it is also good from a safety perspective. My only concern would be vandalism but you have probably considered this in your rationale. Great job!

  14. good work mate, and good to see you have good feedback from everyone, Like it has been said before, I love that it is clear so you can see in and perhaps see out, This would work perfectly in a suburban area when people would just want to sit and chillax for a bit and zone out, I would have loved to of seen different colored "ears" and seen them as a group.
